Kimberley’s journey with The Offshoot Foundation has been transformative, boosting her confidence and igniting a passion for filmmaking. After participating in several film and music video workshops, she gained the skills and experience that led to a work placement at Videndum Production Solutions and a summer internship in the film industry.
Discovering Filmmaking through Offshoot
Kimberley first learned about Offshoot through a friend and decided to attend a workshop. Her interest was primarily in directing, and she was eager to gain hands-on experience. Since then, she has participated in three workshops, including short film and music video projects. “I really enjoyed being able to learn what it’s like to direct firsthand,” she recalls. “I had lots of help and support from the Offshoot team, and they taught me so many different things, including directing and editing.” The workshops helped Kimberley develop not only filmmaking skills but also valuable soft skills like confidence and collaboration.

Building Confidence and Friendships
The workshop experience also helped Kimberley overcome some of her social anxiety. Working in groups with new people was initially daunting, but it became an opportunity to grow. “Doing the workshops made me feel more confident in wanting to go into the film industry,” she says. After each day, she left with a smile, feeling more assured about her goals. Through Offshoot, she also connected with people who have become lasting friends, which has been a highlight of her experience. One memorable project was The Jubilant Project, a collaboration between Offshoot and her school as part of the Primadonna Festival in 2022.
A Supportive Community of Filmmakers
Reflecting on her time with Offshoot, Kimberley has high praise for the facilitators who guided her journey. “The facilitators were all amazing. I worked mainly with Paul and James but also met lots of other members of the team. Everyone was super friendly and made the workshops even more enjoyable.” For Kimberley, The Offshoot Foundation is more than a charity—it’s a community of experienced, knowledgeable people who share their passion for film with young creatives.
Kimberley’s story is a testament to the power of mentorship, hands-on experience, and community in helping young people find their place in the film industry.
