Inspiring the next generation of filmmakers.
At the Offshoot Foundation, we engage young people in a variety of activities. For example, we often create films that the young participants have written themselves. We guide them through different ways of scriptwriting, and then they take the lead, creating something truly their own. We also run workshops on making movie trailers, teaching them basic filmmaking techniques like shot types and editing on iMovie. It’s about giving them hands-on experience in every aspect of production.
“Every young person who walks through the doors of the Offshoot Foundation brings with them a world of potential. I’m passionate about giving these young people opportunities, knowing how challenging it can be to break into the film industry. If I can help in any way, that drives me to continue doing what I do.”
The impact these workshops have on young people is profound. Many come in nervous, unsure of what to expect. But quickly, they start making new friends, having fun, and learning new skills. They gain confidence, not just in filmmaking but in their ability to communicate and work as a team. It’s incredible to watch this transformation unfold over the course of a workshop.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is seeing how well these young people come together. They start as strangers, but by the end of the workshop, they’re a cohesive team. No matter how the final film turns out, the effort and the journey are what matter most. It’s inspiring to see them solve problems and learn to work together, skills that are crucial in any industry.
We’ve had over 40 young people from our workshops go on to work in the film, TV, and games industries. We’ve seen participants become floor managers, assistant directors, editors, camera operators, and even game designers. It’s amazing to see how their experiences at the foundation have helped shape their careers.
What’s most important to me is creating an environment where young people feel comfortable and supported. We make sure our workshops are relaxed and fun, whether we’re making light of a situation or letting the participants take charge of their projects. This atmosphere helps them open up and enjoy the process, learning valuable skills along the way.

Over the years, I’ve seen how participation in our workshops helps young people, not just in the industry but in their overall development. It wasn’t something I initially set out to achieve, but seeing them go on to college, university, and successful careers is incredibly fulfilling. It’s a reminder that the skills they learn here—both technical and soft—are invaluable.
I do this work because I’m passionate about helping young people. I had great mentors growing up, and they made me the person I am today. Now, I want to pass on that mentorship. Every job I take on, I bring young people along, whether they’re working behind the camera or learning about the industry. This has grown into the Foundation we have today, and it’s been wonderful to see how many lives we’ve touched.
There are young people who might not have made it into the industry without our workshops. We’ve helped them learn essential skills and find their paths. Years later, some come back and tell me how their time with us changed their lives. Hearing that is beyond rewarding—it’s why I do what I do. I just want to help people.
