The Offshoot Foundation shines as a hub of creativity and education, inspiring countless young people. Central to this vibrant community is a dedication to empowering the next generation through the art of filmmaking—a dedication reflected in the stories of those who have been transformed by the Foundation’s programs.
Evie Press, a long-time participant and now a dedicated facilitator, reflects on the unique environment that has helped shape her journey. “The atmosphere at Offshoot is one of collaboration and growth. It’s a place where you’re encouraged to explore your creativity and learn through experience,” she explains. Evie’s journey from participant to facilitator is a testament to the Foundation’s impact, providing a supportive space where young people can flourish.
The Foundation’s approach to filmmaking goes beyond teaching technical skills. It’s about instilling confidence and resilience in young people, showing them that making mistakes is an integral part of learning. “Filmmaking at Offshoot isn’t just about getting things right; it’s about understanding that the creative process includes missteps, and that’s okay,” Evie remarks. This philosophy fosters a relaxed and encouraging environment where participants are free to experiment and grow.
The transformation that takes place during these workshops is often remarkable. Many young people arrive shy and reserved, but by the end of the week, they are confident and expressive. “Watching a young person come in on day one and seeing the difference by day four is astounding. Parents and teachers often tell us that their child has come alive in a way they’ve never seen before,” Evie shares. This transformation is at the heart of what the Offshoot Foundation seeks to achieve—empowering young people to discover and embrace their potential.

For Evie, being part of the Offshoot Foundation is more than just a role; it’s becoming part of a community that continues to support one another long after the workshops end. “We’ve built a network where past participants, now working in the industry, offer guidance and opportunities to the new generation. It’s a magical thing to have this group of people to come back to,” she describes.
Reflecting on her journey, Evie fondly recalls one particularly exciting project, “A standout was a kind of Doctor Who spin-off we did when I was about ten. We had a makeshift TARDIS and everything!” These creative experiences are a testament to the vibrant and nurturing environment at the Foundation.
With over 13 years of involvement, Evie has witnessed the profound impact the Foundation has on its participants. From attending workshops as a young person to becoming a lead facilitator, her journey exemplifies the lasting influence of the Offshoot Foundation.
